2-Mello:
Sounds of Tokyo-To Future

Ever played Jet Set Radio before? Did you think the soundtrack rocked? Then you're gonna love this album. 2-Mello is a Hip-hop/Electronic artist and has a ton of really cool projects that I really recommend you check out, even if some of them are hard to find nowadays. (Cough cough Chrono trigger X JayZ mashups and Castlevania X Nas mashups)

Sounds of Tokyo-To was the successor to 2-Mello's Memories of Tokyo-To and is filled with wall to wall hit tracks, songs that will have you wanting to nod along, tap your foot and just all round jam to. Fun fact, this album was so popular with fans of the Jet set vibe, that the track "I Wanna Kno" made it onto the soundtrack for the game Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, which is seen as the spiritual successor to the Jet Set series.

The best I can say is give this album a try, it's a nice mix of fast paced and chill and is an all round blast to listen to.

Durry:
This Movie Sucks

Durry is a brother-sister duo band that came out of nowhere for me. My first whisper of even hearing about them was being randomly served the music video for the song "IDK I Just Work Here", and the track was fun and definitely my vibe. I do love a homegrown indie band and their songs do speak to a certain vibe of "loser anthem", songs about dealing with life and what it throws at you.

Their music makes me wish I knew how to play guitar, cause if I were to learn, some of the first chords I'd look up would be Durry songs to play along with. My favorite track on this album is probably "More Dumb". Great sound, and I can sort of vibe with the message, about sometimes wishing you were a little more ignorant, so you could not worry about existential crisis all the time.

KNOWER:
KNOWER FOREVER

I got to see this band live in 2018, at a pretty cramped venue called the Hare & Hounds in Birmingham. And honestly? It was probably the best way to experience that show. Knower is a full band but the two main members, Genevieve Artadi and Louis Cole, are fantastic musicians. They have the energy to be jumping around the entire set, singing and playing and it was an allround incredible night.

Their stuff leans more towards a jazzy electronic sound that just catches the ear so well, it's unique and stylish and will become an instant favorite if you're into their sound. My favorite song from the album is probably It's All Nothing Until It's Everything, Louis Cole's drumming is subtle, but if you really listen for it you can hear the prowess he has in keeping a frantic drumbeat while not overwriting Genevieve's clear vocals.

The Streets:
A Grand Don't Come for Free

This album is a bit of a weird recommendation, but bear with me while I try to convince you. The Streets is a sort of music collective led by Mike Skinner. They are pretty big in the UK, but I've never heard of anyone outside of the UK talk about them.

This album is almost a play done in spoken word rap; the story is about a protagonist losing a thousand pounds in his own home, and then going on to meet a girl he forms a relationship with. It's a story of love and heartbreak and a guy just trying to live his life, with all of it's flaws and curveballs. I remember listening to this album back when it released in 2004 and being blown away by how different it was to anything else I had heard before.

My favorite song on the album is Blinded by the Lights, where the protagonist has gone to the nightclub and has taken ecstasy. The song resonates the disorientation of the protagonist as the drugs start to hit him and is just so interesting.

TWRP:
Together Through Time

This band is probably the best live show I've ever been to. They are a four man electro funk group all dressed up in full costume having the time of their life, full of boundless energy. I once saw them do an hour long supporting act, take a five minute break and then come back out for the main act as the band for Ninja Sex Party to perform for another hour and a half.

Their music is fantastic, it makes you want to dance, to sing along and air guitar all at once. The album has probably most of the heavy hitter songs out of all of their albums, but don't let that stop you from checking out their discography, it's a really great set of albums.

My favorite song from this album has got to be Starlight Brigade, featuring the previously mentioned talents of Ninja Sex Party's leader vocalist Dan Avidan. It's a great song about a kid taking to the stars in a starship that had crashed onto his planet, and sits in my rotation frequently.

Aesop Rock:
Black Hole Superette

Aesop Rock is one of the best lyrists out there in the rap game right now. His flow and cadence are out of this world, and I regularly find myself pulling songs back to relisten to a particular bar from his songs. Another artist with a fantastic discography and I really do recommend checking it out.

This album dropped in 2025, and I must have listened to it four or five times back to back in the first week. A great mix of songs with different vibes across the entire thing. My favorite song from this album would have to be Secret Knock, the first song on the album and what a way to open it. Incredibly flowing lyrics backdropped by a great backing track.
